Why Robert De Niro Was ‘Aggravated’ on His Antigua Vacation
“Extra's” AJ Calloway sat down with Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro and his longtime producing partner Jane Rosenthal to talk about the annual Tribeca Film Festival, kicking off April 18.
The 74-year-old Academy Award-winning actor just returned from Antigua, where he was vacationing. He said, “Just doing nothing, reading the paper and watching television and getting aggravated.”
What's the root of De Niro's aggravation? President Donald Trump.
Why Robert De Niro Is Not Impressed by President Trump So Far
View StoryDe Niro explained, “Every day, something aggravates me about him and his Administration. I don't know where to start. It's an awful situation... it will get better when he's gone and we will have learned something… that the American people will have pushed back and we will have tested our institutions... With this guy, it's just all over the place.”
It's the kids of Parkland High School who give him real inspiration. Robert pointed out, “Those kids are the future, they're the ones. They're great.”
Another event that had a big effect on this year's Tribeca Film Festival was the #TIMESUP movement. According to Jane, “Forty-six percent of the narrative films are all done by women. I think it's great, we now have to see real tangible results."
Some of the highly-anticipated films that will be screened this year include “Love, Gilda” based on the life of comedian Gilda Radner and the JAY-Z-produced docuseries “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.”
The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 18-29 in New York City. Passes and tickets to the festival are available at TribecaFilm.com.
