Donald Trump’s Campaign Claims He Didn’t Hear Supporter State President Obama Is a Muslim
Just two days after the GOP Debate, Donald Trump is making headlines yet again!
During a town hall event in New Hampshire, the Republican candidate took a question from an audience member, who said, "We have a problem in this country. It's called Muslims. You know our current president is one. You know he's not even an American."
Trump interrupted, "We need this question. This is the first question."
The man, who wore a Trump T-shirt, continued, "Anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That's my question: When can we get rid of them?"
After the event, Trump was criticized by Democrats for not challenging the man's claims about President Obama and Muslims. Hillary Clinton wrote on Twitter, "Donald Trump not denouncing false statements about POTUS & hateful rhetoric about Muslims is disturbing, & just plain wrong. Cut it out. -H."
Her fellow Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders added, "Trump must apologize to the president and American people for continuing the lie that the president is not an American and not a Christian."
Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski later explained to CNN that he did not correct the man because he didn't hear the part about President Obama being a Muslim. "All he heard was a question about training camps, which he said we have to look into. The media want to make this an issue about Obama, but it's about him waging a war on Christianity."
The next day, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slammed Trump on the "Today" show, saying, "I wouldn't have permitted that. I would correct him. I'd say that the president's a Christian and he was born in this country. Those two things are self-evident."
