Sridevi Kapoor, Bollywood Superstar, Dead at 54
Sridevi Kapoor, described as "Bollywood's first female superstar" and known professionally by her first name only, has died at 54.
The New York Times reports Kapoor died of cardiac arrest in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, tweeted condolences over the untimely death of a woman who had appeared in films from the age of 4.
Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace: PM @narendramodi

Over the course of her long career, Sridevi worked in 300 films in five languages, including her hits "Mr. India" (1987), "Chandni" (1989) and her comeback success following a 15-year retirement, "English Vinglish" (2012).
Her final film, "Mom," was released in 2017, garnering rave reviews for her performance.
She is survived by her second husband and two daughters.
