Demi Lovato on Her Heroes and Her Sexuality: 'I Love Who I Love'
In a wide-ranging interview with PrideSource this week, singer Demi Lovato spoke out on her sexual orientation, indicating she wants to maintain an air of mystery even as she remains committed to being an outspoken LGBT advocate.
While promoting her upcoming album "Tell Me You Love Me," Lovato was asked by journalist Chris Azzopardi why she doesn't put a label on her sexuality. Lovato replied, "I just feel like everyone's always looking for a headline and they always want their magazine or TV show or whatever to be the one to break what my sexuality is. I feel like it's irrelevant to what my music is all about. I stand up for the things that I believe in and the things that I'm passionate about, but I like to keep my personal life as private as possible when it comes to dating and sexuality and all that stuff just because it has nothing to do with my music. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is trying to get that soundbite and I am purposefully not giving the soundbite. Watch my documentary."
The documentary she was teasing is "Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated," coming October 12 to YouTube. In it, she says she does answer some questions about her sex life.

View StoryOne topic she didn't want to go into was that of her late gay grandfather. "He definitely influenced me a lot," she allowed, then said, "I actually would not like to talk about it just because I feel like — I think I outed him, actually, to some relatives, so it's kind of a sensitive subject."
Asked about other gay idols she has, Lovato preferred not to categorize them in that way, saying, "No — you know, I love who I love and I feel like I look at everybody who is outspoken about who they are as an inspiration and that's it."
Lovato also addressed her rift with Mariah Carey, who she called "nasty" for shading Jennifer Lopez. She seems to be in make-up mode, saying of Mariah, "I think she's got an incredible voice and, you know, yeah, I'd love to share the stage with her."
"Tell Me You Love Me" drops September 29.
