Alicia Keys’ Positive Outlook on 2020, Plus: How She’s Giving Back
Singer Alicia Keys is taking a positive approach to 2020.
“Extra’s” Nate Burleson spoke with Alicia about her new music, quarantine, health, and new lifestyle brand.
The hitmaker dished on her new album, “Alicia,” which features the track “So Done.” She commented, “It’s just sooo good, one of my favorite songs ever.”
Alicia, who collaborated with Khalid on the song, said, “I knew we would create something magical, what was so good about it was this level of casual conversation, this ability it just connect there is something so powerful about recognizing what you’re finished with.”
Keys also weighed in on 2020, which has been plagued by COVID-19. She noted, “I'm not mad at it even though it's been crazy and challenging and full of change and adjustment. I think it has also brought the real so front-and-center that it cannot be ignored, we’re recognizing our own power and we are also recognizing the power of being together… It feels really good to be a little bit more in one place at home, just closer to the people you love.”
The 39-year-old has never looked better, but what’s her secret? She answered, “That’s one thing I can be grateful for in 2020 in gave me some space… I think in the beginning all of us likely went through a roller coaster of emotions… So one of the things I found that really helped was just being active and being able to consistently put in that time.”
She went on, “So I think of all that finding the things that work for you and feeling good amongst it all is definitely a secret.”
What’s not a secret is her support for others. Keys recently created a one billion-dollar fund for Black businesses. She shared, “We know clearly that there is a major racism issue… But it feels like for the first time people — even from other countries — are really eyes wide open and really wanting to create a new way forward.”
“And I'm grateful to be a part of process… in my way, as well,” Alicia added.
Keys has started her own business, a lifestyle brand. She elaborated, “It's called Keys Soul Care. It has been a long time in the making. I've always had trouble with my skin actually since I was a young girl I was like, ‘Man, when I can, I'm gonna make something. One day I'm gonna... and all the things like that and little did I know that it was so much more than just the physical.”
“We never talk about soul care and that’s the conversation we are having here… How do you create space for yourself, create rituals?” Alicia emphasized. “That really just give you the buoyance, especially in times like these.”
