Derek Hough Sets the Record Straight on Tyra Banks’ 'DWTS' Elimination Blunder
The new season of “Dancing with the Stars” is well underway, and new host and executive producer Tyra Banks is already coming under fire after recently announcing the wrong names of the two couples up for elimination. Now, reports this week indicate there is drama on set and that her job could be in jeopardy.
“Extra's” Jenn Lahmers spoke with former pro-turned-judge Derek Hough today, who set the record straight. He explained, “The producers came up afterwards and were actually thanking Tyra, they were like, 'Thank you so much, you handled that well. There was a technical situation happening in the booth…' From what I have heard from people, they were happy and relieved… It could have been a lot worse.”
Monday night, Derek returns to the dance floor for the first time since 2016, dancing with his girlfriend Haley Erbert. He teased, “Passion, love, quick face dancing… We're rehearsing in our garage here, we take ice baths together at night… We are staying fit, staying healthy during quarantine… You're not, like, dancing full tilt like full out. We have been doing that this week — it's been fun.”
The couple, who met on tour, has been together since 2015 — but don't get any ideas! Derek says of any proposal in the works, “It won't happen on the show.”
As for the stars still vying for the Mirrorball Trophy, Derek said Nelly is improving. “I'd have to say Nelly last week with the samba, I was really honestly impressed because samba is a really hard dance… I was here for it. I was really super impressed.”
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
