Jon Gosselin Denies Child Abuse Claims
Former reality star Jon Gosselin is denying claims he is under investigation for abusing his 16-year-old son Collin.
Jon's rep told “E! News” in a statement, "Jon has never abused Collin. No charges have been filed against him and there's no ongoing CYS investigation. Collin has endured severe trauma. Jon is a loving father who has worked hard to ensure that his son gets the support and help he needs."
Gosselin has since spoken out to DailyMail.com, saying, “It's not true, I would never hit Collin, ever. I love him with all my heart.” Read his account of what happened below.
The statements follows a story posted by People magazine claiming that the county of Berks, Pennsylvania, notified Collin's mother Kate Gosselin about an incident between Jon and Collin. Collin also made accusations against his father in a now-deleted Instagram post.
According to a Child and Youth Services report obtained by the magazine, Jon is accused of “causing bodily injury to a child through recent act/failure to act: hitting/punching.”
Meanwhile, Kate spoke out to People, saying, “You do not punch and kick your children. You do not kick a child. I don't want to hear any excuses from anyone, not from his father, not from local law enforcement, not from court personnel whose job is supposedly to ensure the best interests of my children. There is a child abuse law, PA 23; section 8i states that doing any of the following, regardless of whether it causes injury, is child abuse, and first on that list is kicking. Period.”
She added of her ex-husband, “I don't want my children around him. Enough is enough.”
People obtained a copy of Collin's deleted Instagram, which allegedly said, “My dad is a liar. Yesterday he beat me up and thought nothing of it, he punched me in the face and gave me a swollen nose and I started bleeding. He then continued to kick me in the ribs after I was on the floor. He is a liar.”
According to Jon, he was driving back from the dentist's office with two of his children, Hannah and Collin, on September 2 when they got into an argument. “Collin got very upset and started acting out so I intervened,” he told DailyMail.com. “He started throwing stuff at my car, denting it and shouting f--k you.”
He went on, “I was angry and I confronted him and then he threatened to run away. We've had problems with Collin in the past running away and I was worried. He was upset, so I restrained him. I didn't punch or kick him, I restrained him, which he obviously wasn't happy about. He's 16, he's a 16-year-old boy.”
Gosselin said afterward he left the house to give Collin some space, but Hannah called and said Collin was planning to call the police, so Jon turned back.
When the police arrived, Jon said, “He told them I punched him in the face and kicked him in the ribs. And I was like, 'I didn't do any of that stuff.'”
Jon and Hannah gave statements denying Jon hurt Collin. Gosselin added, “The CYS came out and interviewed us and they also spoke to Collin's mother Kate and his other siblings and that was the end of it, the claims were unfounded.”
The next day, Jon took Collin's Xbox and some other items as punishment, and he says that's when Collin threatened to post about his dad on Instagram. “I said, 'I don't care, I'm still gonna discipline you.' I told him I loved him, but it's just the way it's got to be.” The Instagram post was reportedly up for only a few minutes.
The Berks County District Attorney John Adams told the magazine that no charges or citations have been filed. Kate reacted to the lack of charges, saying it “makes me sick to my stomach.”
She added, “I do not want this buried, swept under the rug or minimized. As a mother, I am not going to sit quietly and idly by while my child, any of my children, is assaulted by anyone, let alone their own father. I am spotlighting this, and I will keep shouting about it, in the hopes that the authorities and the courts will finally do the right thing. Do not return my child to an abuser's home. Jon needs to be charged with a crime. If this were your child, would you feel okay with having it swept under the rug?”
Jon and Kate shot to fame in 2007 on “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” with their twins Cara and Madelyn, now 19, and sextuplets, Alexis, Aaden, Joel, Leah, Hannah and Collin, all now 16. The couple divorced in 2009 after 10 years of marriage.
Collin and Hannah had been living with Jon in recent years, but Kate tells People, “The police advised me that they removed Collin from Jon's home immediately, and as far as I'm aware, he still is not back.”
