Liam Hemsworth Files for Divorce from Miley Cyrus
Actor Liam Hemsworth has officially pulled the plug on his marriage to Miley Cyrus.
According to court papers, obtained by "Extra," Hemsworth filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Sources told TMZ that Miley and Liam signed a prenup, so their earnings during the marriage will be kept separate.
Another insider shared with People magazine, "She didn't expect it and is a bit disappointed, but she is still doing well and has obviously moved on as well."
"What she and Liam had for a long time was very special,” the source added. “It's just hard for her to think that she will never have this again with Liam. There are really so many things that she loves about him.”
Since there were no children involved and no fight over money, the divorce will most likely be smooth.
The docs, filed by Laura Wasser, currently have the date of separation as TBD.
Liam was seen without his wedding ring in June, nearly two months before they announced their separation.
“Extra” recently spoke with family law attorney Rebecca Zung at Universal Studios Hollywood. She weighed in on Miley and Liam's split, and explained what could happen if they didn't have a prenup. Watch!
A week before Liam filed the divorce papers, Miley released her new single “Slide Away,” which many speculate is about their breakup.
The song references their Malibu home being lost in the wildfires last year. She sings, “Once upon a time it was made for us, woke up one day and it turned to dust. Baby, we were found, but now we're lost. So it's time to let it go.”
Cyrus also appears to discuss their future without each other, singing, “So won't you slide away? Back to the ocean, I'll go back to the city lights.” Liam grew up in Australia and loves spending time surfing, while Miley grew up with the city lights of Los Angeles.
Miley also seems to sing about how things have changed since she met him at age 17 on the set of “The Last Song.” She sings, “Move on, we're not 17, I'm not who I used to be. You say that everything's changed — you're right, we're grown now.”
Miley and Liam had been together on and off for the previous nine years. After the split, her rep said, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."
Days later, Liam released a statement on his Instagram, saying, “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
Miley has been linked to Brody Jenner's ex, Kaitlynn Carter, with whom she has been spotted several times since the breakup.
Kaitlynn and Brody recently called it quits. It was revealed that they were never legally married, despite a wedding celebration in Indonesia last year.
As for her relationship with Kaitlynn, a source shared with People, “Miley is very close with Kaitlynn. It's romantic, but also a friendship. They are both going through similar stuff right now and are bonding over it.”
