Charo’s Husband Kjell Rasten Commits Suicide at 79
On Monday, Kjell Rasten, the husband of legendary entertainer Charo, died at the age of 79.
TMZ reports Rasten shot himself at their home in Beverly Hills. According to the site, Charo was home when it happened.
After a 911 call, Rasten was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Charo released a statement on Facebook, saying, "Yesterday, Kjell, My husband of forty years and the love of my life killed himself. There are no words to describe what we are feeling now. He was an amazing man, a great husband and the best father I could imagine to our son. He dedicated his life to loving and supporting his family.”
She added, "In recent years, his health began to decline and he developed a rare and horrible skin disease called Bullous Pemphigoid. He also became very depressed. That, along with the many medications he needed to take, became too much for him, and he ended his suffering.”
The LA County Dept. of Medical Examiner-Coroner told "Extra" that an "autopsy has been completed," adding, "the cause of death is a gunshot wound of the head." The coroner noted Rasten's death has been "certified as a suicide."
According to The Blast, Charo was seen running out of the house screaming and covered in blood. The site noted that Rasten did not leave a note.
Charo and Kjell, who had been married for 40 years, had one son together, actor and producer Shel Rasten.
