Fergie’s national anthem performance at the NBA All-Star Game lit up the Twitterverse over the weekend.
The singer’s rendition came across as awkwardly sultry, drawing comparisons to Jessica Rabbit and Marilyn Monroe.
Fergie addressed the controversy on Monday, explaining in a statement, "I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA.”
She continued, “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
The next day, Fergie's ex-husband Josh Duhamel appeared to be supportive as he dropped off flowers at her house.
