Gone-Blonde Selena Gomez’s Comeback Performance — Did She Lip-Synch?
Last night, singer Selena Gomez performed for the first time since her kidney transplant revelation!
Gomez, who also debuted platinum blonde hair, performed her new single “Wolves” with Marshmello at the 2017 American Music Awards in Los Angeles.
At the end of the performance, Gomez shrugged and mouthed “thank you” after receiving some applause from the star-studded crowd.
Despite her brave return to the stage, some took to social media to accuse Gomez of lip-synching the performance. One Twitter user said, “Wait wait wait... okay y'all not trying to bash on anyone's performance but was that a lip sync slip up or like some really loud back up vocals in Selena Gomez 's performance likeeeee.... genuinely asking #AMAs #2017.”
Crying with the wolves because I did NOT want that performance to end, @selenagomez & @marshmellomusic! 😭 #SELENAxAMAs pic.twitter.com/sNyqCTnmZR

After the performance, her fans came to Selena's defense, with one tweeting, “may i remind y'all selena is still recovering from a kidney transplant and she just gave the performance of a lifetime. words can not express how emotional i'm feeling right now. literally shaking. #SELENAxAMAs #amas.”

Why is lip syncing such a horrible thing? Like I'm genuinely curious. It makes no sense to me

While Gomez didn't address the lip-synch rumors, she said in an Instagram Story, “Thank you to my best friend Petra [Collins] for helping me bring it to life.”
Sources told TMZ that Gomez was singing live, but using a backing track on the chorus.
