Kelly Clarkson on Taking Her Kids to the AMAs, That P!nk Duet, and Distancing Herself from Dr. Luke
Before opening the American Music Awards with an epic duet with P!nk, Kelly Clarkson talked to "Extra's" Renee Bargh on the red carpet, telling her Christian Sirano was responsible for her glamorous frock.
Kelly made the AMAs a family night, bringing her husband as well as her daughters Savannah, 16, and River Rose, 3. “They're my dates," she said. "They went on the red carpet and they are sitting with me." She was confident River would be okay during the long show "as long as I have snacks and princesses."
Talking about taking the stage with P!nk just weeks after professing she wanted to collaborate with her, Kelly confessed, "I'm very excited. It's beautiful, it's really tasteful, it's intimate. It's really awesome for first responders, it's really awesome for women in music — a lot times we get pitted against each other."
Speaking more about how women should stick together, Kelly said, "There is room for everyone, and we're two very down-to-earth powerhouse singers and it's okay — we're on the same playing field."
Kelly took a stand of her own nearly a decade ago, declining co-writing credit on the 2009 single "My Life Would Suck Without You” with producer Dr. Luke. She said, “I am not a fan of him and money, I have never been profit over people. I was forced in that situation or my record would get sat on, so I did it. I put my big-girl pants on and went on there and did it, I did it to my best of my ability... I didn't want credit, I didn't want my name next to his."
She added, "That's okay. He's talented. Live your life... we have different paths."
