Last night, the baseball legend caught up with “Extra's” Renee Bargh in Las Vegas, opening up about his supermodel wife Hannah and the impending arrival of their baby daughter. Jeter gushed, “I'm looking forward to it, and it's an exciting time for us.”
How is Hannah doing after announcing her pregnancy in February? Jeter said, “She's doing good." When Renee commented that she looks amazing, Derek agreed. “Thank you. She does.”
The former New York Yankee was candid about whether he is ready for how his life will change, saying, “I don't know. People tell you things. But I'm just sort of going into it.”
The 42-year-old admitted that he hasn't practiced changing diapers just yet, smiling, “No. I have a dog.”
When Renee pointed out that you don't put diapers on dogs, he laughed, “True, true. But you're sort of picking up some stuff.”
Derek has been enjoying his time since retiring, explaining his favorite part is, “Not being on such a strict schedule. A lot of people think you just show up at 6 o'clock and play a game and go home. But it's a long schedule and I did it for a long time and I'm happy I have some free time to do some other things.”
One of those things is his Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament, benefiting his Turn 2 Children's Foundation, which takes on more meaning now that he is becoming a dad himself. "It's always been special,” he said of the event, which raised more than $1 million.
Some of the celebrities to attend the event included Ken Griffey Jr., Anthony Anderson, Marcus Allen, Ray Allen, Benjamin Bratt, Brandi Chastain, Tino Martinez, Bode Miller, Jorge Posada, and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.
The Turn 2 Foundation supports programs and activities that motivate young people to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
