Why Minnie Driver Is ‘Annoyed’ When Women Are Labeled ‘Difficult'
Actress Minnie Driver is gracing the cover of the April issue of emmy magazine!
Driver is joined in the issue by her “Speechless” cast, including Mason Cook, Cedric Yarbrough, Kyla Kenedy, Micah Fowler, and John Ross Bowie.
In the issue, Minnie opened up on her character, who is an assertive mom, saying, “I get really annoyed when people say she's not likable. Why are women supposed to be likable and men are allowed to be difficult, like Archie Bunker on 'All in the Family?' I love how fierce and passionate Maya is, and I love that she's written with such irreverence and insight into what it is to be in a family that has special needs. When people say a woman is difficult, to me it's a red flag that someone is interesting.”
Bowie raved, “Minnie has a real clown in her that loves getting out.”
Minnie had wonderful things to say about Bowie and Yarbrough. “We come up with lots of stuff on the spot because they're brilliant and quick and clever,” she said. "There's that opportunity with improv actors, and it serves the show so well.”
