What MLB Pitcher José Fernández’s Death Certificate Just Revealed
In September 2016, news broke that MLB pitcher José Fernández had died in a boating accident.
A month later, it was revealed that the 24-year-old had cocaine in his system and was legally drunk at the time of the fatal accident, according to toxicology reports.
Five months after his passing, his death certificate, obtained by TMZ, has been released, with one surprising tidbit: The document clearly states that the late athlete was divorced, though no marriage had previously been publicly known.
TMZ reports that Fernández wed Alejandra Baleato Marichal in 2012, but they ended the marriage 18 months later.
The papers also noted that he was cremated in Fort Lauderdale after his body was found in the ocean in the wee hours of September 25.
Fernández's girlfriend was pregnant with their first child at the time of his death.
