Jared Fogle Pleads Guilty to Child Porn and Sex Crimes, Gets 15 Year Prison Sentence
Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle has pleaded guilty to child porn and sex crimes and has been sentenced to over 15 years in prison.
He was charged with one count each for traveling to engage in sexual conduct with a minor and receiving child pornography, after the police raided his Indianapolis home in July.
Before pleading guilty, Fogle was asked if he understood the punishment he could face for the charges and he responded, "Yes, your honor, I do."
In his plea deal, Fogle has agreed to register as a sex offender after his prison release and have his digital devices monitored. His lawyers asked for five years of prison, while the prosecutors were looking for a 12-and-a-half-year term. His team of attorneys argued that he had already "lost everything" and will suffer the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.
Before the sentencing, prosecutors and Fogle's lawyers argued about whether he could have controlled himself and if he can be rehabilitated.
Dr. John Bradford was called by the defense to testify that Fogle had an eating disorder and that his sex drive increased after he lost weight. He also believed that Fogle had a low to moderate chance of relapsing. Prosecutors used his texts and emails to argue that he deserved a longer sentence.
