Cindy Crawford Teams with BFF for ‘Beauty with Benefits’
A lipstick can change someone's look, but can it change a life? Supermodel and entrepreneur Cindy Crawford certainly thinks so.
Crawford has teamed with longtime friend and makeup artist Sonia Kashuk to promote “Beauty with Benefits,” a celebration combining cosmetics and compassion to prove that a little makeup can make a big difference in the lives of people affected by cancer.
Crawford and Kashuk have connected on something that they both care about; both have been touched by cancer in their personal lives. Crawford's younger brother Jeff died of leukemia when he 4 years old, and Kashuk is a cancer survivor who underwent a double mastectomy in 2006.
"The challenges of living and working with cancer is often an aspect of the diagnosis that rarely gets attention," said Crawford. “That is why I wanted to be a part of this great cause with my dear friend Sonia. Beauty is not just about the way you look, but also about the way you feel inside, and this is an opportunity for beauty to make a difference in people's lives."
Both women are taking something that is terrible and turning into a mission.
“I'm thrilled to be a part of Beauty with Benefits,” said Kashuk. “It's wonderful to see so many leading names in beauty come together to support such a powerful cause that will impact the lives of so many."
The feel-good campaign has raised over $2.2M to-date, while providing a huge national stage for the challenges of living and working with cancer.
Crawford and Kashuk have appeared in both print and television PSAs for “QVC and CEW Present Beauty with Benefits” urging people to shop for a cause.
"Extra" was behind the scenes with the two women as they shot the PSA for the campaign and chatted about why they joined. Crawford also shared her beauty secrets and opened up about who her beauty role models are from the past and present. Watch below.
The two-hour “Beauty with Benefits” event is donating 80 percent of the purchase price of the donated merchandise to the Cosmetic Executive Women Foundation's Cancer and Careers organization, which helps people with everything – from how to tell their boss to what rights they have.
During the event, beauty buffs can choose from a selection of color cosmetics, fragrance, skincare and haircare products.
Tune into QVC for the event on Wednesday, April 15 at 10 p.m. ET
