Matthew McConaughey Recalls His Very First Award... Little Mr. Texas!
"Extra's" Renee Bargh caught up with Matthew McConaughey on Tuesday in Beverly Hills, where the star was being honored by friends and colleagues as the 28th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award.
Although McConaughey was honored by some of Hollywood's biggest stars for his contribution to the art of the moving picture, he remembered winning his first award as a child -- Little Mr. Texas!
Matthew's mother, Mary Kathlene McCabe, explained, "Little Mr. Texas. Isn't that cute? He won an award -- Little Mister Texas."
Matthew laughed later, "Oh, I was runner-up. If you ask my mother, she likes to say I won, but I didn't win. See, I thought I won for 20 years, and then one day I blew up that picture and I was like, 'Mom, it says runner-up.' She's like… uhhh."
As for raising some cowboys and cowgirls of his own, sons Levi, 6, and Livingston, 2, and daughter Vida, 4, McConaughey said that he's "raising three.” The proud dad added, "They're just starting school. They love that... more than I did."
McConaughey will next be seen in the Christopher Nolan sci-fi thriller “Interstellar,” in theaters Nov. 7.
