‘Modern Family's' Sarah Hyland Fears for Her Life Because of ‘Abusive’ Ex-BF
Actress Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on the hit show "Modern Family," claims her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Prokop, was verbally and physically abusive in their four-year relationship.
Hyland obtained a temporary restraining order against Prokop this week, and in the legal docs obtained by "Extra," she details some of the alleged abuse.
According to the docs, there was one incident in May in which Prokop, an actor who appeared on "Modern Family,” pinned Hyland against a car and began choking her, calling her "c**t, c**t, c**t.”
Hyland said in the papers, "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."
The TV star also claimed some of the abuse was witnessed by her “Modern Family” TV mom, Julie Bowen, who urged Hyland to leave Prokop.
According to Hyland, following their breakup, Prokop "relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats." She also stated Prokop threatened that she would never see her dog again.
Hyland said Prokop entered a rehab facility in August and was released on September 21. The director of the facility contacted Sarah and told her it would be in her best interest to obtain a restraining order against him due to his mental state and attitude toward her.
No word yet from Prokop's reps.
