Golden Globes: Was Ricky Gervais Naughty or Nice?
A fairly tame Ricky Gervais took to the stage as host of the 69th Annual Golden Globes on Sunday, with a much milder tone than last year.
Weeks before the big night, Gervais teased the evening would feature plenty of witty yet insulting remarks, but the jokes seemed flatter and more predictable than last year, perhaps a case of expectations set too high.
NBC's President of Alternative and Late Night, Paul Telegdy, thought Gervais did a fabulous job, and said at the after-party, "I believe people were prepared after last year, but I would say that he was as disruptive and intrusive this year. I can't see how he could have been more outrageous."
Rolling Stone reported, "He simply wasn't funny. And when it comes to award shows, that's a much bigger crime than being mildly offensive."
