Baldwin Admits Thoughts of Suicide
Superstar Alec Baldwin has fame, fortune and a successful career -- yet he contemplated taking his own life. Baldwin and his "30 Rock" one-liners make fans laugh, but behind the humor, he suffered from suicidal thoughts.
The star revealed to Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," "I would pray to God and say please don't let me wake up in the morning. A lengthy custody battle with ex-wife Kim Basinger, and last summer's fuming voicemail media spectacle made Baldwin think his life wasn't worth living, but Alec did not want give up on his only daughter, Ireland. "When I'm with her, I'm happy," he said. "It's one of the only times in my life that I'm happy."
Baldwin believes he suffers from parental alienation syndrome. "There are women who get divorced in order to punish, out of this bitter, bitter hatred that some of these women have for their ex-husbands... they turn their children against them."
Alec's memoir, "A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce" will be in bookstores this Tuesday.
