Erin Andrews Opens Up on Her Secret Cancer Battle
After settling her $55-million lawsuit against the Nashville Marriott, “Dancing with the Stars” host Erin Andrews faced another personal battle.
Andrews told Sports Illustrated's "The MMQB with Peter King" that she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in September. Luckily, she caught the cancer early and had surgery to remove all traces of it.
The 38-year-old revealed that her tough trial prepared her for the cancer diagnosis. She said, "After the trial, everyone kept telling me, 'You're so strong for going through all of this, for holding down a job in football, for being the only woman on the crew.' Finally, I got to the point where I believed it, too. 'Hey, I have cancer, but dammit, I am strong, and I can do this.'”
In October, Erin underwent surgery and was back on the field almost immediately. Though she was concerned about “missing the Super Bowl,” her fiancé Jarret Stoll, a former pro ice hockey player, just wanted her to get better. She told him, "You wouldn't miss a game. You'd play through any injury, do whatever it takes to get back out there. That's going to be me.”
Just two days after the operation, Erin was on the sidelines at the Packers game. She shared, "Should I have been standing for a full game five days after surgery? Let's just say the doctor didn't recommend that. But just as I felt during my trial, sports were my escape. I needed to be with my crew.”
In November, Andrews went through another procedure and learned that she was clear of the cancer with no need for radiation or chemotherapy.
Back in 2011, Erin Andrews — who recently revealed she battled cervical cancer in 2016 — emphasized the importance of early cancer detection while taking part in the On the Line initiative. At the time, she opened up about her dad's prostate cancer diagnosis.
She told “Extra," "I'm so thankful he caught it early. I don't want any other family to have to deal with that!" Watch!
