'Coming to America’ Gets Sequel — Did Eddie Murphy Hint at Plot Two Years Ago?
Nearly 30 years later, “Coming to America” is getting a sequel!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Eddie Murphy, who has been part of the development of the project, is expected to star.
Writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who wrote the script of the 1988 original, are also coming back to write the sequel.
“Warm Bodies” director Jonathan Levine and “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris are also on board for “Coming to America 2.”
“Coming to America” focused on an African prince who travels to America to escape an arranged marriage and find true love. The movie also starred Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, and John Amos.
Two years ago, “Extra's” AJ Calloway spoke with Eddie and Arsenio, who joked about the plot for the sequel. Eddie said, “We go there and our marriage falls apart and we have to go back to America. We lose the kingdom in the divorce settlement." Was he just kidding?
