Harvey Weinstein Could Face Life in Prison Following New Felony Sex Charges
Harvey Weinstein is now facing more felony sex charges — and a possible life sentence — reports Variety.
A new indictment accuses the movie producer of forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in July 2006.
The new charges include one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree, and two counts of predatory sexual assault.
Predatory sexual assault charges are considered Class A-II felonies and carry sentences of 10 years to life.
D.A. Cy Vance told Variety in a statement, “A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York's Penal Law. This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward. Our investigation continues. If you are a survivor of the predatory abuse with which Mr. Weinstein is charged, there is still time to pursue justice. Please call us at 212-335-9373.”
Weinstein turned himself in to authorities in May. At the time, the NYPD told "Extra" in a statement, "Today, at the NYPD's 1st Precinct, Harvey Weinstein was arrested, processed and charged with Rape, Criminal Sex Act, Sex Abuse and Sexual Misconduct for incidents involving two separate women. The NYPD thanks these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice. The arrest and ensuing charges are the result of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office."
Weinstein pleaded not guilty to those charges, and was fitted with an electronic monitoring device.
