Al Roker Reveals Prostate Cancer Diagnosis
Weatherman Al Roker has received news that no one wants to hear.
On Friday, Roker revealed on “Today” that he'll be undergoing surgery after learning in September he has prostate cancer.
Roker, 66, shared, “It's a good news-bad news kind of thing. Good news is we caught it early. Not great news is that it's a little aggressive, so I'm going to be taking some time off to take care of this.”
Stressing the importance of early detection, Roker shared, “So if you detect it early, this is a really treatable disease and it's why I wanted to take you along my journey so we can all learn together how to educate and protect the men in our lives.”

Next week, Al will have surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. His surgeon, Dr. Vincent Laudone, will remove his prostate, due to the aggressive nature of the cancer, which “appears somewhat limited or confined to the prostate.”
Roker said he plans to return to work “in about two weeks.”
