Oprah Winfrey’s mom Vernita Lee has passed away at the age of 83.
TMZ reports Vernita died on Thanksgiving.
A private funeral has already been held, with memorial donations being made to Feeding America.
Aside from Winfrey, Lee is survived by daughter Patiricia Amanda Faye Lee, who she gave up for adoption in the 1960s. They reconnected later in her life.
Over 10 years ago, Vernita sat down for an interview with TMJ4 at her Milwaukee condo, dishing on her famous daughter, “I loved her the way that she loves people now.”
During the sit-down, Vernita also opened up about losing two children, commenting, “I’m a Christian lady, and if you’re a Christian person, it helps you to deal with situations like that.”
