'Suicide Squad' on Track to Murder Box-Office Record
According to Variety, "Suicide Squad" is set to shake off less-than-super reviews and blow away the box office this weekend.
The Warner Bros. film, based on a popular DC Comics strip, is "heading for around $147 million" in its first frame, which would represent a more than 50% improvement over the previous record-holder for August openings, set by "Guardians of the Galaxy" two years ago.
Along with the built-in audience for the original strip, the David Ayer-directed movie benefits from a star-studded cast, including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne.
