Arnold and Maria's Son Hospitalized in Surfing Accident
The youngest of the Shriver-Schwarzenegger children, 13-year-old Christopher, was hospitalized after a serious surfing accident last weekend, reports TMZ.
The teen, in an Intensive Care Unit for days, suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung while surfing in Malibu. Shriver has been by her son's side while he recovers at the hospital.
Christopher's current condition and the circumstances of the accident are not known.
Patrick Shriver tweeted, "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying," while his sister, Katherine, tweeted, "Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo"
The family, having been through a tough time after finding out Schwarzenegger fathered a son with the housekeeper, has been dealing with divorce proceedings. In his response to Maria's divorce petition, Arnold is asking not to be responsible for spousal support.
UPDATE: A statement from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver has been released. "A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach. While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery."
"On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."
