Scott Wilson, an actor whose career began with appearances in such classics as "In the Heat of the Night" and "In Cold Blood" (both 1967), and who more recently was known as Hershel Green on "The Walking Dead" (2011-2014; 2018-2019), has died.
TMZ reports Wilson died from complications of leukemia peacefully at his L.A. home.
Hours before news broke of Wilson's passing, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Angela Kang had announced at New York Comic Con that Wilson was returning in Season 9, which premieres Sunday.
Wilson's long career included work in the films "The Great Gatsby" (1974); "The Ninth Configuration" (1980), for which he was Golden Globe-nominated; "The Right Stuff" (1983); "Dead Man Walking" (1995); and "Pearl Harbor."
On TV, he appeared on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2001-2008).
Wilson is survived by his wife, Heavenly.
