Tyler Perry on His Oscars Speech: I Hope More People Will ‘Meet in the Middle’

Tyler Perry received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2021 Oscars, and he opened up to “Extra’s” Rachel Lindsay about his moving speech.

In the speech, he spoke against hate and urged people to meet in the middle.

Tyler told Rachel, “In the middle is where conversation happens, and that is where change happens.”

He added that when we are “talking and experiencing each other,” we develop empathy. Perry insisted, “That only happens in the middle. So that is my hope, that more people would just meet in the middle.”
