Doctor Talks Omicron Coronavirus Variant

“Extra’s” Cheslie Kryst spoke with Chief Medical Officer for Verdugo Hills Hospital of USC Dr. Armand Dorian, who shared his take on the Omicron coronavirus variant.

She shared, “It’s a micron, it’s a new variant… the information that’s coming out is it seems like it behaves similarly to the previous COVID variants as in mild symptoms for the most part.”

Dr. Dorian noted that if the new variant is resistant to the vaccine, then the vaccine would need to be retooled.

Dr. Dorian stressed the importance of masking up in “high-risk areas” and getting vaccinated.

As for the possibility of more variants emerging, Dr. Dorian said, ‘There’s no question as the holidays come through until new year’s. There’s going to be so much intermingling.”

He warned, “I’m pretty sure in February, we’re going to be talking about a new variant.”
