Ava DuVernay Celebrates Oscar Nomination for '13th' on 'A Wrinkle in Time' Set

Only “Extra” was on the “A Wrinkle in Time” set with Ava DuVernay when the crew surprised her, sharing the news that her documentary "13th" was nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar.

The director said she “felt like the luckiest lady in the world,” adding, “To be able to come into this movie ("A Wrinkle in Time") and to celebrate another movie on this special day, is rare for women directors, rare for black directors, and the rarest of the rare for the black women directors. I feel like I am walking on air today. It’s very cool.”

The docu is about race in the US criminal justice system, and Ava described what it meant to her to have "13th" nominated, saying, "I am happy that this nomination is happening at a time where I feel like this information needs to be amplified, and more people need to have this knowledge. I thank the Academy for helping us get the word out."

“A Wrinkle in Time” is set for release in 2018.
