The Stars Were Out for the Carney Awards

The Second Annual Carney Awards were held last night in Los Angeles in honor of the late actor Art Carney, and celebs were out to support!

“Extra” caught up with actor Steve Buscemi to find out what was special about the event. “That this is in honor of Art Carney, who was truly one of my favorite actors of all time. It’s such a privilege to be here. It’s very exciting, it’s very thrilling,” he said. “It’s something that I could never have imagined when I was watching him – certainly on ‘The Honeymooners’ and the films that he did – that I would even be in the same business as him, let alone accepting an honor in his name.”

Art’s son Brian Carney also attended the event, created by brothers Jim and David Katz. “I’m just overcome by the whole idea that these two brothers came up with; and it honors my father,” he said. “But what we’re really here for is to honor the character actors that appear in all these great movies and television shows that don’t, we feel, get the recognition that they deserve.”

Veteran actor Gary Cole added, “As an actor all you hope for is employment. When people start handing out awards for, whatever, that’s just gravy. I’ll take gravy. Gravy’s fine!”
