Taraji P. Henson Talks About Her Past as a Victim of Domestic Violence: ‘I Don’t Hate Him'

Taraji P. Henson is letting readers into her personal life in her new memoir “Around the Way Girl."

While chatting with “Extra’s” AJ Calloway, the “Empire” star opened up about the book, revealing, “It’s liberating because so many people are afraid to do that. So many people are ashamed of their flaws — I am not… All of that made me who I am today.”

Taraji said one of the hardest things she had to write about was her past as a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her son’s father. “Put your hands on me, I got to go, because we reached the point of, ‘Now we can't be rational.’” Taraji eventually summoned the courage to end that relationship. "It was my choice to decide to move on for the greater good of us, to continuing our friendship to raise our kid. I don't hate him; may he rest in peace, because he passed away.”

Catch Taraji on “Empire” Wednesday nights on Fox.
