Elizabeth Hurley on Why She Got Involved in Breast Cancer Awareness
"Extra's" Tanika Ray sat down with Elizabeth Hurley at Universal Studios Hollywood to talk about a cause close to her heart – the fight against breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a campaign that just turned 25, and Hurley noted, “Shows like this discussing breast cancer, it would have never happened 25 years ago."
She said her heart goes out to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who recently shared her breast cancer diagnosis, adding, “It was unbelievably commendable of her to be prepared to talk about her personal health issues publicly. It's a big decision and not everyone can make that decision, and the fact that she did… again she's opening up the conversation.”
Hurley said it was the death of her grandmother that got her involved in the cause.
“When I started, my grandmother had just died of breast cancer… everything that I've done for the cause makes me just think if only we had known this we could have been there for her, and she might have survived.”
Hurley is continuing to raise awareness with the new YouTube documentary “Unraveling the Pink Ribbon: Creating a Breast Cancer-Free World.” Watch!
Liz also talked about sharing her life on social media and her hit E! show “Royals.”
The fit and fabulous 52-year-old loves posting bikini selfies on Instagram. She explained, “I live in the rainiest country in the world, so if I ever get a glimpse of the sun it's an excuse for me to put on a bikini.”
When she isn't in a bikini… she is in a tiara, playing a queen on “Royals.”
Tanika asked what the real royals think of the show, which returns sometime next year. Liz replied, “I imagine that it's their favorite show. I don't know for a fact, but I just have a feeling in my bones.”
Giving her two cents on Prince Harry's relationship with actress Meghan Markle, Hurley said, “I think she's fabulous and I would love her to get married to Prince Harry. I met her very briefly once and thought she was beautiful, clever, intelligent, she was just fantastic. She would be a lovely princess.”
To help Elizabeth in the fight against breast cancer, use hashtags #PinkRibbon25 and #ELCdonates on Instagram and Twitter through October 31, 2017, and The Estée Lauder Companies will donate $25 to breast cancer research.
