Iggy Azalea on Those Tyga Rumors, Plus: Her Summer Music
Rapper Iggy Azalea is back with new music!
“Extra's” Mark Wright sat down with Iggy at Universal Studios Hollywood, where she dished on her six-track EP “Survive the Summer.”
The new EP includes “Kream,” which features Tyga. Of the single, which is out now, Iggy said, "I first met Tyga when I was 19, I didn't have any music out… Wanting to take a step back from my album back to a mixtape sound, I just thought Tyga would be a nostalgic collaboration for me to do because the time I was making my mixtape he was doing his.”
“I think we will do a lot more music collaborations,” she added.
Iggy and Tyga are working together, but are not dating, despite romance rumors! She commented, “I'm still single… We've been friends for so long. He's a nice guy — I just feel like people you know for so long you just know too much about him.”
Is Iggy Azalea Dating Kylie Jenner’s Ex, Tyga?
View StoryWhat can we expect from the EP? Iggy shared, “It's a nod to more of my beginning-type sounds, it's way heaver rap, its grimier, aggressive, twerkable… very sexy, it's summer. Summer is hot and sexy and aggressive — you go out with your friends and you have a good time, you have romances, you have crazy adventures.”
While showing off her cover art, she revealed that she looked at old editorials of widows who had veils and people mourning at cemeteries, adding, “Saying goodbye to the old stuff, hello to the new stuff.”
Before working on her new music, the 28-year-old went on a retreat. As for what she took away from the break, Iggy revealed, “Being able to identify when I am getting a bit carried away with things… that's helped me a lot, learning that.”
She emphasized, “I was finding myself in a lot of negative situations.”
Iggy also found inspiration from her good friends, Demi Lovato and Kesha. She said, “They have roller-coaster-ride lives as well, and they have really interesting stories. Neither of them have had it easy career-wise or part of their personal lives. To see them persevere and hear their stories and have successes… For me to be in a place where I wanted to elevate in my career and grow, those are the girls I really look up to… They gave me a lot of reassurance.”
During their chat, Iggy also taught Mark how to twerk. Watch!
