Our Favorite Stars This Week: Young Hollywood Takes the Met Gala
Although the Met Gala no longer allows attendees under 18, the age restriction didn't stop some of the brightest young stars in Hollywood from stepping out Monday night in New York City. Here are seven of our favorite campy looks from the pink carpet:
Harry Styles: The former “One Direction” frontman co-hosted Monday night's soiree, which just so happened to be his first Met Gala. We applaud his gender-bending Gucci outfit, a sheer black blouse with lace and ruffle detailing. A stylish heartthrob breaking gender norms in fashion? That's Gucci.
Elle Fanning: The young starlet called her 2019 Met Gala look “Malibu Barbie.” She wore a coral Miu Miu crop top and pant set, accented by colorful necklaces and fun nail charms. If Katy Perry needed a side of fries for her burger costume, Elle's manicure had her covered.
Kacey Musgraves: Speaking of Barbie, the Grammy winner transformed into a life-sized Barbie, which was fitting for the pink carpet. Kacey made quite the entrance, rolling up to the Met Gala in a pink Barbie convertible. Her fuchsia ensemble was designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino, known for his playful style. Come on, Barbie, let's go party!
Zendaya: This former Disney star knows a thing or two about Disney princesses. The actress graced the carpet as a modern-day Cinderella, wearing a gorgeous Tommy Hilfiger dress that lit up with help from her Fairy Godfather, stylist Law Roach. Zendaya committed to the role, even losing a glass slipper on the stairs! No word on whether she stayed at the ball past midnight, turning her carriage back into a pumpkin.
Madelaine Petsch: Zendaya wasn't the only star who brought Disney magic to the Met Gala. “Riverdale” actress Madelaine Petsch channeled Tinkerbell from “Peter Pan” with her teal Jean Paul Gaultier dress. We're clapping our hands for her whimsical look (and yes, we believe in fairies).
Kendall & Kylie Jenner: The dynamic duo from the Kardashian family brought the heat to the pink carpet in their coordinating Versace looks. Kendall wore an orange dress with a plunging neckline, while Kylie paired her lavender gown with a matching fur stole. Both sisters seemed to play off Susan Sontag's definition of the Met Gala theme: “The hallmark of Camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers.”
Cardi B: When it comes to feathers, no one knows how to shake their tail feathers like the one and only Cardi B. She made quite the entrance with her larger-than-life burgundy ensemble, inspired by feminism... and we like it like that.
