2024 Emmy Nominee for Outstanding Entertainment News Program

Lynn Loring, who acted on "Search for Tomorrow" from 1951-1961 and later produced the hit movie "Mr. Mom," died December 23. She was 80.

"Caddyshack" star Cindy Morgan was found dead in December of natural causes at 69. Her death was not announced until January 6, 2024.

Legendary Las Vegas stand-up comic Shecky Greene, whose name became synonymous with laughs, died on New Year's Eve at 97.

Oscar nominee Tom Wilkinson, remembered for such films as "Shakespeare in Love," "The Full Monty," and "In the Bedroom," died at 75 on December 30.

Tom Smothers (R), one half of the controversial comedy duo the Smothers Brothers, died of lung cancer at 86 on December 26.

Lee Sun-kyun, known for his SAG-winning performance in the international smash "Parasite" in 2019, took his own life on December 27 amid an aggressive drug-use investigation.

"One Life to Live" star Kamar de los Reyes died at 56 after a brief cancer battle on December 19.

Laura Lynch (center), a co-founding member of the original incarnation of the Dixie Chicks, died at 65 on December 22 from injuries sustained in a car wreck.

Bobbie Jean Carter, the sister of Nick Carter and the late Aaron Carter, died suddenly at 41 in late December. Her mother Jane Carter confirmed the sad news to TMZ. Her cause of death was not immediately known.

AC/DC's original drummer, Colin Burgess, died at 77 the weekend of December 15. “Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin,” the band announced on social media.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Hollywood: Life on the Streets" star Andre Braugher died after a short illness on December 11. He was 61.

Ryan O'Neal, a '60s and '70s superstar leading man known for "Peyton Place," "Love Story," "What's Up, Doc?," and "Paper Moon," died at 82 on December 8 after battling cancer for many years.

Andrea Fay Friedman, who enjoyed success on the '90s sitcom "Life Goes On," died December 3 at 53. She had called her Down syndrome "up" syndrome.

Marisa Pavan, the surviving twin sister of tragic actress Pier Angeli, who was herself a Golden Globe winner for "The Rose Tattoo," died at 91 on December 6.

Ellen Holly, the first Black actor to star on a U.S. soap — "One Life to Live" — died at 92 in December.

Legendary TV producer and writer Norman Lear died at his L.A. home on December 5 at the incredible age of 101. He was famed for creating "All in the Family," "Sanford and Son," "Maude," "The Jeffersons," "Good Times," and "One Day at a Time," among other classic series.

"Euphoria" producer Kevin Turen died at 44 in November while at the wheel of his Tesla. It was revealed in December that his death was due to multiple heart issues.

Geordie Walker, guitarist for the influential British band Killing Joke, died December 3 in Prague after suffering a stroke. He was 64.

Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman on the U.S. Supreme Court, died December 1 at 93 due to complications of advanced dementia and a respiratory illness. Appointed to the Court by President Ronald Reagan, she received the Medal of Freedom in 2009 from President Barack Obama.

Shane MacGowan, lead singer of the Pogues, died November 30 of pneumonia at 65. He's seen here with the late Kirsty MacColl, his collaborator on the 1988 dark holiday song "Fairytale of New York."

Henry Kissinger, the revered and reviled former U.S. Secretary of State, died November 29 at 100.

Frances Sternhagen, Charlotte's busy-body mother-in-law on "Sex and the City," died at 93 on November 27.

Marty Krofft, 86, died of kidney failure on November 25 in L.A. He, with his brother Sid, co-created such iconic TV shows as "H.R. Pufnstuf" and "Land of the Lost."

Emmy-winning cinematographer Ross McDonnell, who had gone missing after a bike ride and possible swim, was found dead November 17. He was 44.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter died November 19 at 96 after entering hospice care for dementia.

"Extreme Weight Loss" Season 4 alum Brandi Mallory died at 40 on November 9.

Brazilian influencer and TV personality Luana Andrade died after liposuction surgery on November 7. She was 29.

Former child actor Evan Ellingson, who appeared with Cameron Diaz in "My Sister's Keeper," was found dead on November 5 at a sober living facility. He was 35.

Peter White, who originated the role of Alan in the stage and film versions of "The Boys in the Band," and who appeared on "All My Children" for decades, died of melanoma at 86 on November 1.

"General Hospital" star Tyler Christopher died at 50 on Halloween following what was described as "a cardiac event."

"Friends" icon Matthew Perry died at 54 on October 28, just a year after his tell-all memoir was released, in which he detailed his struggle with substance abuse while coming to terms with the pressures of fame.

Richard Moll, who played gentle giant Bull Shannon on every episode of "Night Court," died October 26 at 80.

Richard Roundtree, who played John Shaft in a series of iconic blaxploitation crime films, died October 24 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81.

Tulsa rocker Dwight Twilley, who had Top 20 hits with the Dwight Twilley Band ("I'm on Fire") and on his own ("Girls") died unexpectedly October 18 at 72. No cause was offered.

Burt Young, known as Paulie in the "Rocky" movies, died at 83 on October 8.

Lara Parker, who was Angelique on the Gothic soap "Dark Shadows," died at 84 on October 12.

Suzanne Somers of "Three's Company" fame died at 76 October 15 after a 20-year cancer battle. She had become a fitness guru after abandoning her acting career in 2001.

Piper Laurie, whose career began in 1950, and who was Oscar-nominated for "The Hustler," "Carrie," and "Children of a Lesser God," died October 14 at 91.

Handsome actor Mark Goddard, known for his work on the '60s series "Lost in Space," died October 10 at 87.

Phyllis Coates, the very first actress to play Superman's love interest Lois Lane on TV, died at 96 in October. She was Lois on TV's "Adventures of Superman" for a season, from 1952-1953.

Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the trailblazing Isley Brothers group, died in October at 84.

Seen with his "A Quiet Passion" leading lady Cynthia Nixon in 2016, esteemed British film director Terence Davies died at 77 after a brief illness on October 7.

"Django Unchained" actor Keith Jefferson, a close friend of Jamie Foxx's, died at 53 on October 5 of cancer.

NFL legend Dick Butkus died in his sleep on October 5. He was 80.

Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield died at 57 on October 1 just days after Curt Schilling told the world that Wakefield and his wife had been diagnosed with different kinds of cancer.

Dianne Feinstein, who was San Francisco mayor from 1978-1988 and who, at the time of her death, was the oldest sitting U.S. senator, died at 90 on September 28. She had served in the Senate since 1992.

Stage legend Sir Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore in six of eight "Harry Potter" films, died at 82 on September 27 after a bout with pneumonia.

David McCallum, the star of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "NCIS," died of natural causes at 90 on September 25.

Savannah Chrisley's ex-fiancé, Nic Kerdiles, died in a motorcycle crash on September 23. He was just 29.

Crooner Roger Whittaker, known for his Top 20 hit "The Last Farewell" from 1975, died September 13 at 87.

Soap star Billy Miller died September 15 at 43 following a long struggle with "manic depression."

Tony winner Michael McGrath died September 14 of undisclosed causes at 65.

Iconic female bodybuilder Lisa Lyon, who famously modeled for photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, died September 8 at 70 after battling stomach cancer.

Gary Wright, the singer behind the hits "Dream Weaver," "Love Is Alive," and "Really Wanna Know You," died September 4 at 80 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Gayle Hunnicutt, who played J.R. Ewing's ex on "Dallas" from 1989-1991, died August 31 at 80.

Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell, who had retired from performing in 2021, died September 4 of liver failure. He was 56.

Jimmy Buffett, whose 1977 hit "Margaritaville" spawned a billion-dollar empire, died September 1 at 76.

"Days of Our Lives" star Arleen Sorkin, who both inspired and voiced the character of Harley Quinn, died August 26 at 67.

Legendary "The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker, seen here celebrating his 90th with successor Drew Carey, died August 26 at 99.

Hersha Parady, the actress best known as Alice Garvey on "Little House on the Prairie," died August 23 at 78 after battling a brain tumor.

Nancy Frangione (center, with Hillary B. Smith and Eileen Davidson in 1988) died at 70 on August 18. Famous for playing scheming Cecile de Poulignac on "Another World," she acted in other soaps and on Broadway.

A two-time Emmy winner for "This Is Us," 66-year-old Ron Cephas Jones died August 19 of a chronic pulmonary issue.

Shelley Smith, a '70s model who became an actress, appearing on TV's "The Associates" and a slew of game shows, died August 8 after suffering a heart attack August 5. She was 70.

Linda Haynes, an enigmatic actress whose performance in the 1977 film "Rolling Thunder" was one of Quentin Tarantino's favorites, died July 17 at 75.

The Band's Robbie Robertson died August 9 at 80 after a long illness.

Virtuoso film director William Friedkin, whose filmed included "The Exorcist" and "The French Connection," died at 87 on August 7.

Glamorous TV actress Sharon Farrell — also remembered for the horror classic "It's Alive" — died in May. Her death at 82 went unreported for months.

Mark Margolis, Salamanca on both "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul," died August 3 at 83 after a short illness.

"Euphoria" actor Angus Cloud died July 31 of a possible drug overdose, just months after the death of his beloved father. He was 25.

Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens died after a cancer battle on July 30. He was 70.

Broadway actress Inga Swenson, best known as stern Kraus on "Benson," died July 23 at 90. She is pictured with her "Benson" co-star, Robert Guillaume, who died at 89 in 2017.

Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles, died July 26 at 77.

"Nothing Compares 2 U" singer Sinéad O'Connor died July 26 at 56, following years of mental health challenges.

Stage actor Craig Dudley, who appeared in the gay cult film classic "Sticks and Stones" (1970), died of cancer at 78 on August 1.

Carlin Glynn, 83, best remembered for her "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" Tony win and her performance in "Sixteen Candles," died July 13 after battling cancer and dementia.

Crooner Tony Bennett, who became iconic with 1962's "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and enjoyed a major career resurgence singing with Lady Gaga decades later, died July 21 at 96 after battling Alzheimer's disease.

Jane Birkin, the British-born French "It" girl actress, model and singer, died at 76 on July 16. Along with her work in entertainment, she had inspired the status-symbol Birkin bag.

TikTok star Haley Ozlodil died of cancer, eight years after being diagnosed with the disease, in July. She was 30.

Milan Kundera, the reclusive author of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," died in Paris on July 11 at 94.

"One Life to Live," "Passions," and "The Bay" star Andrea Evans died after battling breast cancer in July. She was 66.

Broadway star Jeffrey Carlson, who played Marilyn in the Rosie O'Donnell-backed production of "Taboo" — and who played the first trans character on daytime TV — died at 48 in July.

Tammy Slaton of "1000-Lb. Sisters" lost husband Caleb Willingham, 40. His death was announced on July 1.

Oscar and Tony winner Alan Arkin, remembered for films like "Little Miss Sunshine" and for the TV hit "The Kominsky Method," died at 89 on June 29.

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett, 35, drowned in Florida on June 27.

British actor Julian Sands, who starred in the film "A Room with a View," was declared dead in June after human remains were found in the Mount Baldy wilderness in California and positively IDed as belonging to him. Sands went missing on a hike in January.

Longtime soap opera actor Nicolas Coster, a Daytime Emmy winner for "The Bay," died at 89 on June 26.

Actor Frederic Forrest, Oscar-nominated for "The Rose" and known for such films as "Apocalypse Now" and "Valley Girl," died at 86 on June 24. His death was announced by his longtime friend Bette Midler.

Oscar, Tony and Emmy winner Glenda Jackson, the esteemed actor who quit her profession for decades while pursuing a career in politics in England, died June 15. She was 87.

Acclaimed writer Cormac McCarthy, author of such books as "No Country for Old Men" and "The Road," died at 89 on June 13.

Acclaimed actor Treat Williams, who was the star of the hit series "Everwood" in the early '00s, was struck and killed by a car while riding his motorcycle in Vermont on June 12. He was 71.

B-movie leading lady Noreen Nash, who also had a part in the film classic "Giant," died at 99 on June 6.

Mike Batayeh, a stand-up comic who acted on "Breaking Bad," died unexpectedly on June 1. He was 42.

Legendary wrestler the Iron Sheik died at 81 on June 7.

Anna Shay, star of "Bling Empire," died of a stroke at 62 in June.

Barry Newman, star of the film "Vanishing Point" and the '70s series "Petrocelli," died May 11 at 92.

"Route 66" star George Maharis died at 94 on May 24.

"Carrie" actress Samantha Weinstein lost her battle with cancer at age 28 in May.

Singer Ed Ames of the Ames Brothers, also a star of the '60s TV series "Daniel Boone," died at 95 on May 21.

One of the true legends of rock, Tina Turner, died May 24 in Switzerland after a long illness.

Iconoclastic queer filmmaker Kenneth Anger, also the author of the controversial "Hollywood Babylon" books, died at 96 on May 24.

Irish actor Ray Stevenson, who had been seen in the "Thor" films and in the runaway hit "RRR," died unexpectedly on May 21 in Italy. He was just four days shy of 59.

Model-turned-actress Marlene Clark, remembered for the vampire classic "Ganja & Hess" and for playing Lamont's girlfriend on "Sanford & Son," died at 85 on May 18, the same day as her "Slaughter" co-star Jim Brown.

Acclaimed writer Martin Amis, who wrote the novels "Money: A Suicide Note" (1985) and "The Information" (1995), among many others, died May 19 of esophageal cancer. He was 73. His equally famous novelist dad Kingsley Amis died at 73 in 1995.

Jim Brown, the NFL great who segued into acting with films like "The Dirty Dozen" and "Any Given Sunday," died at 87 on May 18.

Helmut Berger, the Austrian sex symbol known for his work in European films including "The Damned" and, later, for a stint on TV's "Dynasty," died at 78 on May 18.

"Queen Mommy Blogger" Heather B. Armstrong took her own life at 47 in May.

Jacklyn Zeman, a beloved part of the "General Hospital" cast for 46 years as Bobbie, died unexpectedly at 70 on May 10.

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, whose hits included "Sundown" and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," died May 1 at 84.

Jerry Springer, the host of one of the most outrageous talk shows in TV history, died in April at 79 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Legendary singer, actor, and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte, seen at left in 2021, died April 25 at 96 of congestive heart failure.

Len Goodman (center) of "Strictly Come Dancing" and "Dancing with the Stars" fame, died at 78 on April 22 — just six months after retiring from TV and three days before his 79th.

Dame Edna Everage comic Barry Humphries died at 89 on April 22 after complications from hip surgery in March.

British actor Murray Melvin, known for such films as "A Taste of Honey" (1961) and "The Devils" (1971), died at 90 on April 14.

Mark Sheehan, formerly of the boy band Mytown and since 2001 a member of the phenomenally successful Irish rock group the Script, died suddenly on April 14 after "a brief illness."

Mary Quant, groundbreaking fashion designer at the center of the '60s "Mod" movement, died at 93 on April 13.

Elizabeth Hubbard, the Daytime Emmy-winning actress known for "The Doctors" and "As the World Turns," died April 8 at 89 after a cancer battle.

Michael Lerner, the stage, TV, and film actor remembered for his Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for 1991's "Barton Fink," died April 8. He was 81.

Paul Cattermole — who is front and center in this 1999 shot — of the English pop group S Club 7, was found dead at 46 in April, months ahead of the band's comeback tour.

Judy Farrell, who appeared as Nurse Able on episodes of "M*A*S*H" in the '70s and '80s, died April 2 at 84 after a stroke.

Seymour Stein, the legendary A&R man and head of Sire Records for over 50 years, died at 80 on April 2. He signed Madonna, the Talking Heads, the Ramones and many more.

Oscar-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto died of cancer on March 28. His death at 71 was announced after his funeral.

Sharon Acker, who starred in the classic "Point Blank" and as Della Street on a '70s revamp of "Perry Mason," died March 16 in Toronto.

Mark Russell (at left, pictured with "Laugh-In" producer George Schlatter in 2022), died at 90 in March. He had been called a "national treasure" for his blend of musical comedy with political satire, and was a regular on the '70s TV series "Real People."

Brian "Brizz" Gillis (at left), one of the original members of the '90s boy band LFO, died March 29 of a suspected heart attack. In his late 40s, he was the third of four members of LFO to die in recent years.

Guitarist Wayne Swinny, of the rock band Saliva, died March 22 following a brain hemorrhage. He was 59.

Lance Reddick, known for his work on "The Wire," died unexpectedly at 60 in March. He was found at home on March 17 in the midst of promotional activities for his fourth "John Wick" film.

Chaim Topol, closely associated with his stage performances and Oscar-nominated film turn as "Fiddler on the Roof's" Tevye, died at 87 in March.

Robert Blake, the former child actor from the "Our Gang" movies who won an Emmy as the star of "Baretta" and was controversially acquitted of killing his wife in 2005, died March 9 at 89 of heart failure.

Ed Fury, a bodybuilding legend and '60s sword-and-sandal movie star, died at 94 on February 24.

Gary Rossington, the final surviving member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died March 5 at 71.

"Saving Private Ryan" actor Tom Sizemore, 61, died March 3, 13 days after suffering a stroke-induced brain aneurysm.

Ricou Browning, who played the Gill-man in "Creature from the Black Lagoon" nearly 70 years ago, died February 27 at 93.

Jansen Panettiere, the actor and voice actor who was the brother of actress Hayden Panettiere, died the weekend of February 19 at just 28.

Stand-up legend Richard Belzer, seen with co-star Mariska Hargitay, died at 78 in France on February 19. He made history portraying his famous character Munch on hundreds of episodes of several series, primarily "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Law & Order: SVU."

"Hill Street Blues" actress Barbara Bosson died February 18 at 83.

Kyle Jacobs, the songwriter husband of country star Kellie Pickler, was found dead of an apparent suicide on February 17. He was 49.

Stella Stevens, a '60s "sex kitten" and one of the stars of "The Poseidon Adventure," died at 84 on February 17 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Legendary sex symbol Raquel Welch, who became famous with back-to-back hits "Fantastic Voyage" and "One Million Years B.C." in 1966, died February 15 at 82 after a brief illness.

"Days of Our Lives" and "Hollywood Heights" actor Cody Longo was found dead at 34 on February 8.

Howard Bragman (pictured with Leslie Jordan, who also recently died) was diagnosed with "explosively fast-moving" leukemia in early February, dying less than two weeks later at 66.

Legendary composer Burt Bacharach died at 94 on February 8.
