2024 Emmy Nominee for Outstanding Entertainment News Program

Legendary actress and director Penny Marshall, right, passed away in December at the age of 75. Marshall died at her Hollywood Hills home due to complications from diabetes.

Former President George H.W. Bush passed away at the end of November at age 94.

Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee died in November at 95. His primary cause of death was said to be heart and respiratory failure.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen passed away in October after a battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Scott Wilson died from complications of leukemia peacefully at his L.A. home in October.

Mac Miller, real name Malcolm McCormick, died in September from an apparent overdose. The rapper, who recently dated Ariana Grande, was 26.

Celebrated film and TV star Burt Reynolds died in September after going into cardiac arrest. He was 82.

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), a decorated war hero and longtime U.S. senator who was the Republican nominee for president in 2008, died in August at 81.

McCain had battled skin cancer in the past, and had been suffering from brain cancer.

Legendary entertainment journalist Robin Leach passed away in August at 76.

Leach, known for his work on “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” (1984-1995) had been hospitalized for more than 10 months after suffering a stroke.

Aretha Franklin died in August at the age of 76 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson passed away in June at the age of 89.

Jackson spent his final days in a hospital battling cancer.

"America's Got Talent" 2008 winner Neal E. Boyd passed away in June at the age of 42.

Boyd died from heart failure at his mother's home in Missouri.

TV personality Anthony Bourdain, considered one of the most influential and celebrated chefs in the world, committed suicide in June. He was 61.

At the time of his death, Bourdain was in Strasbourg, France, working on a new episode of his CNN series "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown." He was found unresponsive in his hotel room by close friend Eric Ripert, also a well-known chef. Bourdain had hanged himself.

Famed designer Kate Spade passed away in June at the age of 55.

Spade was found dead in her NYC apartment by her housekeeper, who found her tied to a closet door knob with a red scarf. Law enforcement sources told the site that she had hanged herself.

Actress Margot Kidder passed away in May at the age of 69.

Kidder died at her Montana home. The cause of death has not been released.

Park County attorney Bruce Becker told the site that an unknown person called the police to report that Kidder was unconscious and not breathing. Officers arrived at the scene to find that she was already dead.

Tim Bergling, known to fans as Avicii, died Muscat, Oman in April. He was 28 years old.

While the cause of his death remains unknown, police officials told Radar that "drugs were found on the scene."

His family also released a statement indicating it may have been suicide, saying in a statement, "He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace."

Verne Troyer, the actor most famous as Mini-Me in the "Austin Powers" movies, died in April. He was 49.

Troyer passed away after being on life support since early April, when he was taken to a hospital after friends reported he was "drunk and suicidal."

"Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" actress Pamela Gidley passed away at the age of 52. Her obituary revealed that she "died peacefully" on April 16 at her home in Seabrook, New Hampshire. The cause of her death remains unknown.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush, wife of President George H.W. Bush, died in April.

Shortly before she passed away, Mrs. Bush, 92, announced she would not be seeking further medical care after a series of hospitalizations. Instead, she planned to "focus on comfort care."

"Night Court" actor Harry Anderson died in April at age 65. His death certificate listed Anderson's primary cause of death as cardioembolic cerebrovascular accident, which is a stroke that caused the heart to pump unwanted materials into the brain.

Some of the contributing factors listed were influenza and heart disease.

Mitzi Shore, the owner of L.A.'s Comedy Store and mother of actor Pauly Shore, died in April. She was 87.

The "godmother of comedy" had been battling Parkinson's disease, and had been in hospice care, according to the L.A. Times.

Former MTV "Road Rules" star Brian Lancaster died in April at the age of 43.

Lancaster was found dead in his home in Pennsylvania. The Chester County Coroner's Office later stated, "The cause of death was fentanyl, heroin and ethanol intoxication, with the manner of death being accidental."

Nelson Mandela's former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away in April at the age of 81. Madikizela-Mandela died at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. In a statement, family spokesperson Victor Dlamini said, "She died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones."
