The star of the '50s and '60s series "Lawman" and "Laredo," and of the '70s blaxploitation film "Foxy Brown," Peter Brown died at 80 in March from complications of Parkinson's disease.

"The Patty Duke Show" star Eddie Applegate died at 81 in October after a long illness " and he passed away the same year in which co-stars Patty Duke and William Schallert did.

The suave star of TV's "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," Robert Vaughn, passed away at 83 in November of leukemia.

The son of Dean Martin, Ricci Martin had been performing a tribute show to his dad in recent years when he died unexpectedly at age 62 in August.

He charmed audiences as Schneider on "One Day at a Time" in the '70s. In January, Pat Harrington Jr. passed away at 86 of Alzheimer's disease.

Longtime character actor William Schallert died at 93 of natural causes in May, not long after his TV daughter Patty Duke (from "The Patty Duke Show") passed away.

Legendary musician Prince died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl in April at 57. His onetime protégée, Denise Matthews aka Vanity, died just two months earlier of renal failure.

"Surfside 6" and "The Green Hornet' heartthrob Van Williams died of renal failure in November at age 82.

Valerie Fairman, a star of "16 and Pregnant," died of an apparent drug overdose in December at 23 years old.

Tommy Ford, known for his part on the hit sitcom "Martin," died at 52 in October of an abdominal aneurysm.

"Law & Order" regular Steven Hill died of natural causes at 94 in August.

Angela Raiola, better known as Big Ang on reality TV, died at 55 in February after throat cancer spread to her brain and lungs. Shortly before her death, she begged smokers to quit, and non-smokers never to start.

Stage actor Peter Vaughan, who gained new fame for his part on "Game of Thrones," died at 93 of natural causes in December.

Longtime voice artist Janet Waldo " Judy Jetson to you! " died at 96 in July several years after finding out she had an inoperable brain tumor.

The man whose Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation is a staple of schools, and who starred in TV's "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp," died at 91 of natural causes in September.

The first on-screen Lois Lane, Noel Neill, played the part in a 1948 serial, a 1950 follow-up and in the classic '50s series "Adventures of Superman." She died at 95 in July following a lengthy illness.

Youree Dell Harris played Miss Cleo on a series of commercials in the '90s, but was forced to stop when her bosses were accused of deceptive business practices. She died of cancer in July at 53.

French actress Madeleine Lebeau " the last remaining cast member of the movie classic "Casablanca" " died at age 92 in May after breaking her thigh in an accident.

Transgender club performer The Lady Chablis was the most popular character in the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," and she got to play herself in the Clint Eastwood movie of the same name. She died at 59 of pneumonia.

"Hawaii Five-0" star Keo Woolford died at 49 in November following a stroke.

British actor Kenny Baker, who played R2-D2 in several "Star Wars" movies, died at 81 in August following a brief, undisclosed illness.

SAG president, Emmy winner and star of the series "The White Shadow," Ken Howard died at 71 in March.

The first female attorney general of the U.S., and the second-longest serving A.G. overall, Bill Clinton appointee Janet Reno died in November at 78 of Parkinson's disease.

The inimitable star of the Johnny Depp movie "Cry-Baby," Kim McGuire died at 60 in September following two heart attacks, an adverse reaction to medications and pneumonia.

An MGM musical star of the '40s, effervescent Gloria DeHaven died at 91 after a stroke in July.

"The Voice" singer Christina Grimmie was just 22 when she was gunned down by deranged stalker Kevin James Loibl in Orlando in June.

Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández was tragically killed along with two others in a boating accident in September. He was just 24 years old.

Mexican singing superstar Juan Gabriel died of a heart attack at 66 while in the midst of a U.S. tour in August.

Garry Marshall, the director of "Pretty Woman," "The Princess Diaries" and a holiday-themed trilogy of films ending with 2016's "Mother's Day," died at 81 in July. He was the brother of TV actress and movie director Penny Marshall.

"Days of Our Lives" villain Joseph Mascolo died at 87 in December after battling Alzheimer's disease.

Country music icon Merle Haggard died in April at 79 of pneumonia.

Barbara Tarbuck, Lady Jane Jacks on "General Hospital," died at 74 the day after Christmas, a victim of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disorder.

Rocker Leon Russell died following a heart attack and coronary bypass surgery at age 74 in November.

Eighty-seven-year-old Holocaust survivor, author of "Night" and crusader against anti-Semitism Elie Wiesel died of natural causes at 87.

Known the world over as Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch," Florence Henderson died of heart failure on Thanksgiving Day at 82.

The highly controversial former Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, succumbed to cancer at 46 in November.

Detective Ron Harris of "Barney Miller" fame, Ron Glass died of respiratory failure at 71 in November.

The stand-up comic and star of TV's "It's Garry Shandling's Show" and "The Larry Sanders Show" died suddenly in March of a blood clot. He was 66.

Futuristic fashion designer André Courréges, associated with go-go boots and miniskirts, died at 91 of Parkinson's disease in January.

A pro baseballer and later a sportscaster, Joe Garagiola died in March at age 90 of natural causes.

Coen Brothers regular and "Modern Family" actor Jon Polito died of cancer in September at 65.

The lead singer of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings was battling bile duct cancer when she suffered a stroke while watching the U.S. presidential election results. She died less than two weeks later at 60.

Amazingly, Charmian Carr acted only three times in her life, and the first time was as Liesl von Trapp in the 1965 classic "The Sound of Music." Sadly, she passed away in September at 73 from complications of frontotemporal dementia.

A founding member of the Eagles and a solo star in his own right, Glenn Frey died at 67 in January from complications of rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and pneumonia.

Edward Albee, the acclaimed playwright of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", died at age 88 of natural causes in September.

Character actor David Huddleston will forever be remembered for playing the Big Lebowski in the Coen Brothers movie of the same name. He passed away at 85 in August of heart and kidney disease.

MC Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest died in March at 45 of complications from diabetes.

The persona-shifting rock icon died of liver cancer in January, just two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his album "Blackstar."

Marni Nixon dubbed the singing voices of Deborah Kerr ("The King and I"), Natalie Wood ("West Side Story") and Audrey Hepburn ("My Fair Lady"). She passed away in July at 86 of breast cancer.

PBS journalist Gwen Ifill died at 61 in November of breast and endometrial cancer.

Céline Dion's manager husband, producer René Angélil, died of throat cancer at 73 in January.

The son of Frank Sinatra " and a singer in his own right " died of a heart attack in March at 72 while on tour.

"Blood, Sweat & Heels" personality Daisy Lewellyn died of bile duct cancer at 36 years old in April.

The creator of long-running soaps "All My Children," "One Life to Live" and "Loving," Agnes Nixon died of pneumonia resulting from Parkinson's disease in September at the age of 93.

Hip-hop artist Shawty Lo died in a single-car accident in September, aged 40.

One half of the Joey + Rory country singing duo with her husband Rory Feek, Joey Feek died after a highly publicized battle with cervical cancer. She was just 40.

Leonard Cohen, the musical genius behind the oft-recorded song "Hallelujah," was battling cancer when he died following a fall in his home at age 82 in November.

Tony and Obie winner Anne Jackson, the widow of actor Eli Wallach (who died in 2014 at 98), died of natural causes at age 90 in April.

Pop superstar George Michael, a solo sensation and also remembered as one half of '80s duo Wham!, died unexpectedly at age 53 on Christmas Day. He was found by his partner Fadi Fawaz. No exact cause of death was immediately determined.

Former Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres died of a massive stroke at age 93 in September.

Harper Lee, the reclusive author of "To Kill a Mockingbird," died at 89 in February, less than a year after her "Go Set a Watchman" was controversially published as a sequel to her classic first work.

Colorful promoter and ex-husband of Liza Minnelli David Gest died of a stroke at 62 in April.

Comic actor Jack Riley, instantly familiar for his role on "The Bob Newhart Show" in the '70s, died at 80 in August after suffering from pneumonia.

Stage actor and "Picket Fences" star Fyvush Finkel died at 93 in August of a heart attack.

Fashion designer Sonia Rykiel " the so-called "Queen of Knits" " died at 86 of Parkinson's disease in August.

The mother of '50s actress Susan Kohner ("Imitation of Life") and grandmother of filmmakers Paul and Chris Weitz ("American Pie, "About a Boy"), Lupita Tovar was one of the last remaining silent-movie actresses, and starred in the Spanish-language "Dracula" in 1931. She died of natural causes at 106 in November.

Former astronaut and Democratic U.S. senator from Ohio John Glenn died of natural causes at 95 in December.

Famous for his thundering vocals on Dead or Alive's hits, like "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," Pete Burns died in October at 57 of a heart attack.

The man who originated the role of Wilbur Turnblad in "Hairspray" on Broadway " and won a Tony for it " died at 87 in December of heart failure.

Joe Santos, known for his role on "The Rockford Files," died of a heart attack at age 84 in March.

Ninety-year-old Doris Roberts " whom everybody loved on "Everybody Loves Raymond" " died in her sleep of a stroke in April.

Grant Tinker (left), a TV executive and Mary Tyler Moore's former partner and husband, and Morley Safer (right), of "60 Minutes" fame, both died in 2016. Tinker died in November at 90 of natural causes, while Safer died at 84 of pneumonia in May.

Ron Lester of "Varsity Blues" died of kidney failure at 45 in June.

Boy-band mogul Lou Pearlman, who brought us Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC (while ripping them off) and was serving decades in prison for a Ponzi scheme, died of a heart attack at 62 in August.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Maurice White, the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire (pictured at left with Philip Bailey), died at 74 of Parkinson's disease in February.

The host of "The McLaughlin Group," John McLaughlin died of prostate cancer at age 89 in August. He was famously spoofed by Dana Carvey on "SNL."

The Oscar-winning actress and TV star played twin cousins on "The Patty Duke Show" in the '60s, unaware she had what would later be called bipolar disorder. A prominent mental health advocate, she died of sepsis at 69 in March.

Nancy Reagan, onetime actress and former first lady, died of congestive heart failure in March at age 94. Her husband, Ronald Reagan, died at 93 in 2004.

A revolutionary and former iron-fisted president of Cuba, Fidel Castro died at 90 in November of natural causes, setting off celebrations in Miami.

This '50s starlet invented being "famous for being famous," dahling. She passed away two months shy of her 100th birthday in December.

Marvin Kaplan, star of "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" and "Alice," died of natural causes at 89 in August, just a month after it was belatedly announced that his "Alice" co-star Beth Howland had died of lung cancer on New Year's Eve 2015.

Carrie Fisher, known for playing Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" series, as well as for her successful career as a comic writer, suffered a heart attack on a plane in December and died four days later. Her Hollywood legend mom, Debbie Reynolds, died of a stroke the very next day.

Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer died at 69 in December of cancer.

William Christopher, Father Mulcahy on "M*A*S*H," died on New Year's Eve at 84 of small-cell carcinoma.

He was "the Greatest" " and the most famous boxer of all time. Muhammad Ali died at 74 of septic shock in June.

The author of "The Prince of Tides," Pat Conroy, died at 70 in March of pancreatic cancer.

Golf legend Arnold Palmer died at 87 in September of natural causes.

George Kennedy, an Oscar winner for "Cool Hand Luke," died of a heart ailment at 91 in February.

"Punky Brewster" and "Police Academy" actor George Gaynes died of natural causes at 98 in February.

The iconic star of "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" and the Mel Brooks movies "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" died at 83 in August from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

"Ice Road Truckers" personality Darrell Ward died in August at 52 in a plane crash.

The star of "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams," Dan Haggerty, died of spinal cancer in January at age 73.

Wrestling superstar Chyna died at age 46 in April of an overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs. Her brain was donated to science to study the effects of chronic traumatic encephaly.
