Mandy Moore Weighs In on Controversial Use of N-Word on ‘This Is Us’, Plus: More Details on Her Surprising Engagement
Earlier today, Mandy Moore joined “Extra's” Mario Lopez at Universal Studios Hollywood, where she addressed this week's use of the N- word on “This Is Us.”
“This Is Us” is known for tackling real-life issues, including alcoholism, the foster care system, and interracial adoption. The NBC show caused some controversy on social media after not censoring the N-word during a scene with Delroy Lindo. Mandy, who plays Rebecca Pearson, explained, “You're talking about 1980 — that was more, unfortunately, part of the vernacular then.” She pointed out, “It wasn't scripted. That was something he chose as an actor to say and the first time he said it I think Milo and I were both like… we didn't know it was going there.”
Mandy also opened up about her engagement to rocker Taylor Goldsmith. Of the proposal, Mandy shared, “It was very unexpected and very romantic… I wasn't expecting it when it happened.”

The 33-year-old recently attended the wedding of her co-star Justin Hartley, gushing, “It was beautiful. They're the most gorgeous couple…It's just great for all of us as a cast to get together, hang out and celebrate.”
Getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving in L.A. with her fiancé, Mandy dished, “I am gonna be staying here 'cause we're shooting right now. We're shooting the show… I've sort of bucked the traditional Thanksgiving holiday and celebrated Friendsgiving for the last couple years… So I've partnered up with American Express and their Blue Cash Preferred Card and I'm actually co-hosting my Friendsgiving holiday with my soon-to-be mother-in-law — I'm excited about that.”
Fans are excited to see what comes of Rebecca and Miguel's relationship on “This Is Us,” and finally finding out how Jack died. She teased, “That story is gonna be a big focus of next season, of Season 3.”
