How Will Smith Used 'Collateral Beauty' Role to Mourn His Father’s Passing

Will Smith and Dame Helen Mirren caught up with “Extra’s” AJ Calloway in New York, where the duo are dishing about their emotional new movie, “Collateral Beauty.”

In the movie, Will’s character experiences a deep personal tragedy and retreats from life.

The role became a way to heal for the two-time Oscar nominee as he mourned the death of his father. Will revealed, "The personal exploration for me also was one of those absolute magnificent influences of life and art where the experiences of what the character was going through and what I was going through in my life... it was one of the highest artistic and emotional experiences of my life."

Check out “Collateral Beauty,” in theaters December 16.
