“Extra” sat down with Sherri Shepherd as she promoted her new movie “Brian Banks,” based on the true story of an all-American high school football player wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit.

As for why the movie tugs at her heartstrings, Sherri, who plays Banks’ mother, said, “To think that my son might be taken away from me and incarcerated for something he didn’t do makes me emotional right now.”

“Extra” also spoke with Sherri’s co-stars Greg Kinnear, Aldis Hodge and Melanie Liburd, with the real Brian Banks, and with director Tom Shadyac.

“Brian Banks” is in theaters now.
