The Costs of Opening Up Businesses During COVID-19 Pandemic

“Extra’s” Billy Bush FaceTimed with ABC News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton, who weighed in on the costs of opening up the economy too soon during the COVID-19 crisis.

Ashton said, “There’s a lot of pressure, but we have to look at other countries who have started to come out of a lockdown period and what's happening to them, and when you look at Asia... multiple countries in Asia are starting to see their [coronavirus] rates go up again.”

She added, “The risk if that were to happen here is that it will take us much more aggressive action which will cost more in terms of resources and lives to get us back down, and we may not ever get back down to where we started from.”
