Why Octavia Spencer Is ‘Terrified’ of Hosting ‘SNL’
Octavia Spencer stunned in a Marchesa gown at the Oscars, but she was also crushing on “Extra’s” Mario Lopez on the red carpet, saying of him, “Handsome devil this one.”
The 46-year-old is getting ready to be in front of a live audience as the host of “Saturday Night Live” for the first time this weekend. She told Mario, “I’m terrified and I’m excited, but I’m terrified — I have severe stage fright, so I have to get on that stage as much as possible.” She added she hasn’t heard about any of the skits just yet, sharing, “It’s kind of great not knowing anything, 'cause I want to be very present in that moment.”
Spencer told Mario she was thrilled regardless of whether “Hidden Figures” brought home a gold statue. (The ultimate honor went to “Moonlight.”) “The recognition is happening at the box office,” she noted. "I’m glad that our story is resonating with audiences across the world. We are happy, happy, happy.”
The actress has back-to-back movies coming out, telling Mario, “I’m opening 'The Shack' next weekend, then after that I open ‘Gifted,' so I’m gonna take a little break and I’m looking at some scripts.”
