Why Halle Berry Pushed Through Two Broken Ribs to Film ‘Bruised’

“Extra’s” Terri Seymour sat down with Halle Berry as she promoted her new movie “Bruised.”

Berry revealed that she shot the movie’s fight scene was the “first thing” she shot for the movie. She shared, “We did real weight cuts — we were ready to fight.”

In the scene, she went toe to toe with Valentina Shevchenko, who accidentally broke two of Halle’s ribs on the second day of shooting. The Oscar winner quipped, “When you are an actor and you do your own stunts, it’s par for the course.”

Halle added, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Halle also explained why she had to “fight” her way through the painful injury. Referencing her independent project possibly being shut down due to the mishap, she said, “I’d probably lose Valentina, so I had to do what real fighters do and just not quit.”

Berry not only acted in the film, she also served as its director! Along with being “scared to death,” she admitted, “As a first-time director, you put yourself out in a brand-new way… It’s your baby and you want it be received in the way in which you intended it to be received.”

Berry told us she was a “huge fan” of UFC before making the movie. She revealed, “It was the way I spent almost every Saturday night. It had been my life for at least seven, eight, nine years before.”

Halle recently made an appearance during UFC 268. Calling it a “privilege,” Halle said, “For Dana [White] to allow me to be in the cage, it was a great cherry on the top of my whole experience.”

“Bruised” is in theaters now and streaming November 24 on Netflix.
