Wendy Williams' Emotional Return, and More Information About Graves' Disease

Wendy Williams dissolved into tears in her return to her self-titled show after a doctor-ordered three-week hiatus. She told the audience, “Thank you for being my special people,” as she dabbed her eyes.

The time off came after Wendy fainted live on-air last October.

New York's toughest TV talker was on a break while a team of physicians treated her for health problems, including the autoimmune disorder Graves' disease, which can cause overproduction of thyroid hormones. According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms can include fatigue, bulging eyes, anxiety, heat sensitivity and more.

Wendy invited Dr. Oz on the show to help educate people on Graves', and he shared what the thyroid looks like before and after the disease, saying that thyroid problems can stem from autoimmune “civil wars” within the body.

Dr. Oz told Williams that some of her other levels were off, including vitamin D and folic acid. She told him, “Dr. Oz, I was just a mess,” and later encouraged everyone to take care of their health.

“Extra” caught up with Oz on his way into the show, where he said Wendy was doing remarkably well and he was very proud of her. He also explained that Graves' doesn't go away, but is very treatable. Watch!

Williams also spoke to “Good Morning America” ahead of her return, explaining she hadn't taken a sick day in nearly 10 years and that she had missed three doctor's appointments with her endocrinologist leading up to the fainting. Watch the interview!
