Before Tiger Woods was arrested for DUI, he made a call to President Donald Trump.
In bodycam footage obtained by TMZ, Woods was seen walking away from the police cruiser after he flipped his car.
The police then ask him to come back to the scene of the accident.
As Woods walks back, he is heard saying on the phone, “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye.”
When the officer told Tiger to stay close, he responded, “Yeah, I was just talking to the president. Trying to get away from everybody."
Days ago, Trump commented on Woods’ crash while making his way to Air Force One.
In video posted by TMZ, he said, “I feel so bad. He’s got some difficulty — there was an accident, and that’s all I know.”
Along with calling Woods “a very close friend of mine,” Trump added, “He’s an amazing person, an amazing man. But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”
In a press conference, Martin County Sheriff’s officials told the media that Woods was taken into custody for DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Woods has pleaded not guilty.
Tiger has also been slapped with a careless driving citation according to court docs obtained by People magazine.
Woods broke his silence on the arrest in a statement on X. He said, “I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” Tiger went on. “I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
The next day, a judge approved his request to seek treatment outside of the country, as confirmed in court docs obtained by TMZ.
Woods cited privacy concerns as his reasoning for traveling outside the U.S. for treatment.
