Hilton also had a special message for the mom-to-be, saying, “Congratulations. This is going to be the most incredible experience of her life.”
Paris is a mom herself. She admitted, “I have always wanted to be a mom, and just to have my baby boy here has been a dream come true.”
As for what kind of mother she is, Paris answered, “I’m gonna be a very supportive mom, very protective. I already feel that way, and just always there for my son.”
Paris had to relive some painful past experiences while writing her memoir. She said, “Writing this book was one of the most therapeutic experiences of my life, and really going so deep and writing about things I never said out to loud to anyone, it’s been so healing and empowering as well.”
In the book, Hilton opened up about getting groomed in eighth grade. As a defense mechanism, she took on a public persona to deal with the trauma. She said, “After all the trauma that I endured as a teenager, I feel that as a trauma response I created this type of character of this Barbie doll persona with the perfect life. Also just having to deal with all the attention that was thrown my way, just having a mask to feel protected.”
Paris also went into great detail about her time at a behavior modification school in Provo. She noted, “Enduring what I went through was so painful and traumatic that I would just think about who I wanted to become and what I wanted to be when I got out of there.”
Paris said her parents did not know about the abuse she was receiving then. She turned that pain into something positive, pushing for reform of the industry surrounding troubled teens.
She said, “My parents and I have never been closer. We’ve been speaking about everything. These types of schools manipulate the families just as much as they do the children… Now my mom has been coming with me to Washington, D.C., and being on my side, supporting me, and also being a support to all the other families who experienced the same.”
The Provo Canyon School that Paris attended changed ownership in 2000 and is now owned by Universal Health Services. The company told Refinery 29 in 2021, "We do not condone or promote any form of abuse. Any and all alleged/suspected abuse is reported to our state regulatory authorities, law enforcement, and Child Protective Services immediately as required.”
Hilton also spoke about her friendships with two other inspiring women, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.
She dished, “I have been friends for Demi for so many years. When I went to the premiere of her documentary, I was just so inspired by how real and vulnerable she was. That’s what inspired me to feel comfortable enough to come through and tell my story.”
Of her friendship with Gomez, Hilton said, “I love Selena. I think she is so beautiful inside and out… When I ran into her at Britney’s wedding, she came up to me and said she watched my documentary and was very touched by it, and it was one of the reasons it inspired her to be vulnerable.”
While there have been a lot of misconceptions about Paris, this is what she wants people to know about her. She stressed, “I’m someone who is kind, [has] a big heart, who fights for what’s right, deeply cares about others, and is making a difference.”
