Singer Kelly Clarkson is opening up about her split from Brandon Blackstock, calling divorce the “worst thing ever.”
Kelly spoke to “Sunday Today” host Willie Geist about the breakup, saying, "It's no secret, my life has been a little bit of a dumpster, personally. It's been a little hard the last couple months."
“The Voice” coach said she’s been leaning on friends, explaining, "I've been talking to friends that have been through divorce. I don't know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet, because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved."
Clarkson’s relationship woes will play out on her new album. She told Geist, "This next record will probably be the most personal one I've ever released. The whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship to the end of what it is now.”
She called her new music “very honest” and the process “therapeutic.”
It sounds like her children, River, 6, and Remington, 4, have already heard at least one track. Kelly said with a laugh, "There's one that my kids sing in the car... and I'm like, 'This is weird.' I've never written about my life to where my kids are singing along."
Clarkson and Blackstock split in June after nearly seven years of marriage.
